Star: Florence Welch is a boozehound, her band wants to do an intervention

Poor Florence Welch. She’s so talented and I wish that she was a “celebrity” in the sense that we could talk about how awesome she is on a more regular basis. As it is, she usually gets lumped into fashion posts because she’s wearing something terrible and/or unflattering, or we’re writing about her because she was maybe/possibly banging Sean Penn. And now this… Star Magazine claims Flo might have a drinking problem. Well, that certainly would answer some of the questions I have about her style and about Sean Penn, wouldn’t it?

Florence Welch’s partying has gotten so bad that her inner circle is considering taking drastic action to help the Florence + the Machine frontwoman.

“A band member told her that her handlers were discussing an intervention,” tattles a spy. “She told them that if her drinking gets out of control, she’ll be the first one to say she needs help.”

But her antics are already raising eyebrows. On July 19, at a bar in London, Florence jumped up onstage with a shot of tequila and belted out a wobbly version of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” before crowdsurfing back into the audience.

“The singer herself has admitted she has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, prompted by her parents’ divorce when she was 13. “I started drinking at 14,” Florence has said. “There was chaos at home, so I drank. I went to wild parties, met some bizarre, amazing people and did mad things like running around naked in fields covered in leaves.”

I’ve never heard of Florence pulling any Lohan-level shenanigans, so I don’t know what to think. It’s possible she is a big social drinker, and it’s possible that she’s one of those performers who needs a stiff drink (or five) before going on stage. I tend to think that there could be something there, just because I feel like Star wouldn’t write about Florence unless they got a decent tip. So… I guess we can start playing the “Was she drunk when she got dressed?” game right now.
