Choreographer & Director Laurieann Gibson Defends Lady Gagas Judas Video
When she’s not full of fierce energy on her new hit E! reality series “Dance Scene,” she’s busy backing pop sensation Lady Gaga. Laurieann Gibson serves as a choreographer and creative mentor to the pop star.
With Gaga’s “Judas” video leaked to internet airwaves this week — which Gibson choreographed and directed — Gibson gave an exclusive interview to Global Grind where she broke down the inspiration and direction behind the visuals.
While a lot of people point out nothing but religious undertones and possible influence from Federico Fellini, Gibson says she didn’t set out to do so.
“…Between using the phantom with the water and playing with different speeds to effect an emotion, it’s a part of my style as a director,” explained Gibson about directing “Judas” video. “When it comes to hateful judgement about her video directing, Gibson states the inspiration of what Jesus provides brings “true peace, joy and deliverance.”
Amongst the other things in this exclusive interview, Gibson also speaks on working with the free-spirited pop singer in general, her hit-and-miss with Keri Hilson’s “The Way You Love Me” video and her short-lived beef with Diddy after she was booted off “Making the Band.” Read the rest of the interview here.—Shabazz
